The 6386 is a dual triode tube with remote cutoff characteristics that make it ideal for use as a gain element in a compressor. A DC voltage bias is added with the input signal on the grid to vary the gain of the tube, and creating a compression effect. The 6386 has been used in the Fairchild 670, Gates Sta Level, CBS Audimax and many other classic tube compressors, and many modern ones as well seeing that JJ Electronic started making it again.
